WE LOVE DORY! When we discovered Dory, it had us in stitches. We read a lot of books, and we like a lot of books. But this book was special. We read this book over and over again. We got the audiobook, and they have listened to it over and over again. I decided to buy the book since we had originally borrowed it from the library. It's the first longer book that got my daughter interested in reading. Dory is so imaginative and the story is just so wacky and cute and silly and it's fantasmagory. I'm not sure why it hasn't won any awards yet. We LOVED the sequel too, and I cannot wait for the 3rd installment. Thank you Abby Hanlon for writing such a wonderful story that captivates my children's imagination.Tags : Amazon.com: Dory Fantasmagory (9780803740884): Abby Hanlon: Books,Abby Hanlon,Dory Fantasmagory,Dial Books,0803740883,Family - Siblings,Humorous Stories,Imagination & Play,Brothers and sisters,Brothers and sisters;Juvenile fiction.,Families,Family life,Imaginary companions,Imaginary companions;Juvenile fiction.,Imaginary playmates,Imagination,Imagination in children,Imagination;Juvenile fiction.,CHILDREN'S FICTION GENERAL,Chapter Books,Children's BooksAges 4-8 Fiction,Children: Grades 1-2,Easy Fiction,Educational: English language: readers & reading schemes,JUVENILE,JUVENILE FICTION Family Siblings,JUVENILE FICTION Humorous Stories,JUVENILE FICTION Imagination & Play,JUVENILE FICTION Readers Chapter Books,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile FictionFamily - Siblings,Juvenile FictionHumorous Stories,Juvenile FictionReaders - Chapter Books,Juvenile Grades 1-2 Ages 6-7,Monograph Series, any,United States, chapter books; 1st grade reading books; 2nd grade reading books; 3rd grade reading books; chapter books for kids 6-8; first grade reading books; 3rd grade books; 2nd grade books; childrens books by age 5-8; books for 7 year old girls; books for 6 year old girls; kids books ages 6-8; books for 8 year old girls; books for kids 5-7; books for 8 year old boys; chapter books for kids age 8-10; kids books ages 4 8; funny books; chapter books for kids age 9-12; funny gifts; humor; books for 7 year old boys, chapter books;1st grade reading books;2nd grade reading books;3rd grade reading books;chapter books for kids 6-8;childrens books by age 5-8;books for 8 year old girls;2nd grade books;3rd grade chapter books;books for 7 year old girls;books for kids 5-7;books for 8 year old boys;first grade reading books;3rd grade books;chapter books for kids age 8-10;2nd grade chapter books;books for 7 year old boys;books for 6 year old girls;kids books ages 6-8;books for 9 year old girls;funny gifts;funny books
Dory Fantasmagory Abby Hanlon Books Reviews
My granddaughter who just turned 4 likes to be read to, but doesn't want to have the same book read a second time too often, and I'm talking re. picture books.
To my amazement, once I started on Dory Fantasmagory, she wouldn't let me stop until I'd read the entire book. Then she said "Once more!" (which we'll do tomorrow). It seems she can't get enough of this hyperbolic romp through Dory's imagination.
A most delightful, mercifully un-sweetish, un-princessy, unsentimental, good plain fun set of tales.
My children absolutely adore Dory Fantasmagory and the next two books in the series. My almost-4 year old is particularly obsessed with the series. The characters of the series come up in family conversation all the time, and the three books are practically never on the bookshelf, as they get taken out, carried around the house, stuffed in backpacks, and more than anything, "read" and "narrated" by my almost-4 year old.
Oh....what can I say about Dory Fantasmagory...... She has quiet an imagination and when reading the pages you get all evolved with what may happen next......there are several books in this series, It is good to read this one first. The others are wonderful too.
I bought several of this Dory book for my Summer reading program with 6, 7, and 8 year Olds. The girls and boys loved it. The story kept their attention and the kiddos looked forward to a new chapter the following day.
This book is a great beginner chapter book. It combines a great story with illustrations that have speech bubbles that continue the story (and are not repetition of the paragraphs like some stories are). Dory has a very active imagination and this drives her big siblings crazy. Yes, there is fighting and ignoring, but this is the way real kids act and it provides a moment where we can stop and talk about feelings, and what would be better ways to act on them.
My 1st grader is able to read this on her own, but this story so captures the imagination of my 3 year old (who also has a very active imagination and several "friends" that live in her room), that we frequently read this together as a family. I highly recommend this book!
This is a GREAT book that I read to my first grader. Dory is the annoying little sister who has an imaginary friend named Mary (who looks like a little white monster) and has a big brother and big sister who are always trying to find ways to keep her from bothering them. They invent a villain, Mrs. Gobblegracker, who is always after Dory, which leads to all kinds of adventures. I immediately searched to see if there were any others and read the other one that was available at the time (Dory Fantasmagory and the Real True Friend) and then bought them for my daughter's combined kindergarten/1st grade classroom to have in their collection of chapter books. I just discovered there is a third one and ordered it off yesterday.
Adorable story, perfect for my nine year old. She has read it cover to cover several times. Dory is the baby of the family with a HUGE imagination. She has a fairy god-father named Mr. Nuggy and an imaginary friend named Mary who often leads her astray (like taking off her shoes and losing them at school). Dory must fight the bad witch named Mrs. Gobble Gracker. My favorite part is when Dory and Mr. Nuggy attempt to make a poison soup to deal with Mrs. Gobble Gracker (See pic below). (It actually backfires and she loves it.) The illustrations are like a child's pencil drawing and add to the charm, as though Dory drew them to tell her story. Many drawings make this a quick and easy read. My daughter has read great excerpts aloud and even I found them hysterically funny.
I have a daughter who is a struggling first grade reader. We go to the library several times a week picking out books and hoping she would be interested in one. Fly Guy has been great with starting chapter books but we haven't found a book that is in between fly guy and more wordy chapter books that's all text with smaller fonts like ivy and bean. We wanted a book that would bridge the two and boost her confidence yet was interesting enough she would want to read it. This book has been it. She thinks is funny and the font isnt too small. There's also a page with mostly text mixed in with pages with just a few sentences with illustration to a page that has one sentence with illustration which really helps break it up. Really glad we found this book.
